Jacob and David at the same place-- THE PLACE!

29/12/2017

Jacob encountered (as the Hebrew says) THE PLACE (Ha Makom) and said “how awesome is THE PLACE; this is none other than the Bayth-El” which means the house of God (see Genesis 28:17 & 19).
Years later King David used Jacob’s very words--“this is the Bayth-El”--when he purchased from Ornan his threshing floor, which David called THE PLACE
(1 Chronicles 21:25; 'Ha Makom').
It was just near the Gihon Spring, at that time surrounded by a rectangular enclosure wall to secure its 'living water' for the people of Jebus--later to become The City of David (see the artist's impression below).

THE JEWISH TEMPLE WAS IN ZION IN THE CITY OF DAVID!

Ezekiel captured the vision of the glory of God departing the temple when Judah went into captivity. His description is telling. He saw the glory of God rise to depart and that departure was from ‘the MIDDLE of the city’ (see Ezekiel 11:23). Clearly the temple was located in the middle of the city, not on a hill to its north.

But wait...there’s more: Zechariah later described the return of God’s glory and wrote, ‘Thus says the Lord, “I will return to ZION, and dwell in the MIDDLE of Jerusalem...” Also in chapter 2, verse 10 the Lord talks about dwelling in the midst of His people. He always desires to be right in the midst of His people, just as the tent in the wilderness was the central feature of the camp. Read 'THE PLACE; where Jerusalem's temples stood' available at

The importance of the location known as THE PLACE in the Bible

God established Jerusalem at a location known as THE PLACE. It’s where Abraham offered Isaac; where Jacob had his dream; where Moses told Joshua to go within the Promised Land. It’s what David called the threshing floor he bought and what the prophet Jeremiah said God would bring the people back to.

THE PLACE is the site on which the House of God (Bethel) was built by Solomon and the fire of God fell…. and, the site where the fire fell again on His new temple—the believers during Pentecost!

BEING FOUND

7/12/2017

The prodigal of Jesus’ parable was ‘FOUND’ even though no-one went looking for him (‘this my son was lost and now is FOUND’). He became ‘FOUND’ because he returned to his ‘FOUND-ation’ and to ‘FOUND-ness’: it was in his father’s house, waiting for him!
FOUND describes a status: that of belonging and person-hood.
You were created to be FOUND ‘in’ that only saving Representative Son, Jesus Christ—within Father’s house!
You belong in Him; your ‘FOUND-NESS’ is in Him; it depends on whether you’ll come home to your Father, ‘in’ Him.
This is what Paul means when he talks about believers ‘being FOUND’ in Christ.

QUESTION: Why did King David pitch a tent at Gihon?

6/12/2017

ANSWER: To accommodate the ark of the covenant, because that was The Place spoken of throughout biblical history, where the temple was to be. When Solomon was anointed with the sacred oil for kingship, Zadok took the oil from that tent at Gihon and anointed him--
'So Zadok the priest, Nathan the prophet, Benaiah son of Jehoiada, the Kerethites and the Pelethites went down and had Solomon mount King David's mule, and they escorted him to Gihon. Zadok the priest took the horn of oil from the sacred tent and anointed Solomon. Then they sounded the trumpet and all the people shouted, "Long live King Solomon!"’ (1 Kings 1:38-39). There must be Living Water at the Temple!

5/12/2017

In the scriptures, the flow of life from God is frequently represented by what is known as ‘living water’ flowing at and from the temple (ie., the presence of God). 'Living water' means water that is active; that is, flowing and ‘alive’ in contrast to that which is still or stagnant. If the temple site has no living water it fails to meet the requirements as an earthly symbol of the throne room and presence of God. There is no such ‘living water’ on Temple Mount, only cisterns, but there was (and still is, though now greatly reduced) a stream of living water at the City of David—the Gihon Spring—where Abraham and Jacob and David drank, and where Jacob said, ‘this is none other than Bayth-El, the house of God.’

His perspective .....brings many insightful possibilities to the table. Especially moving are his heartfelt expressions of faith in and love for the prophets and the Savior of the world'.
Pastor, Luke Yeghnazar of the Iranian Church of Los Angeles: Wonderful book. I trust it will be distributed widely. I read it with excitement. The reader will want to know what happens next. An exciting book to be read by Christians, Jews and others.

What readers of THE PEOPLE are saying...
The People is an enthralling and innovative approach, not only to telling old familiar stories but using narrative to portray, in a subtle but powerful way, the truth of good and evil in our world . . . There is good and evil, God and Satan, and in every human relationship/interaction and behavior a choice is to be made. The consequences, for those with the spiritual eyes to see, are clear. It is an exceptional and well written piece of work.” Allan Bull, Macquarie University, Sydney.
