Was Jesus buried in Gehenna at Kfar Hashiloach in Silwan?
A second temple period tomb has been accidentally found by police in Silwan near Kfar Hashiloach. This is an area of Silwan village on the slope of Kidron Valley and the Valley of Hinnom (Gehinnom or Gehenna) below the City of David. (The site has been handed over to the Israel Antiquities Authority).
Here’s what interests me: As many know, I believe that the temple was in the City of David—several hundred metres south of the traditional Temple Mount—(see my e-book ‘THE TEMPLE QUEST’ and print book ‘THE PLACE HaMakom; WHERE JERUSALEM’S TEMPLES STOOD’).
Since tombs of the kings of Judah and certainly that of King David were in the City of David (see 1 Kings 2:10), it would be most fascinating if the tomb in which the King of kings was laid (belonging to Joseph of Arimathea) was in this area with His father, David.
Further, it would give added and enriched meaning to Jesus’ ‘descent into Hell’ (Gehenna) as both a physical and spiritual reality! (See Ephesians 4:9–note ‘the lower parts of the earth’—and 1 Peter 3:18-20).
And… one step further: according to John 14:9, the tomb was near or in a garden, and the location of the King’s Garden was at the confluence of the Kidron and Hinnom Valleys, not far from the Pool of Siloam! The accompanying picture is of the newly-discovered tomb.
